Day 3 Laughlin to Grand Canyon 245 Miles

After a buffet breakfast rode out into the clear morning sunshine with temperatures already into the high 20’s.  First stop was the petrol station just outside town where I took the opportunity to take snaps of some of the party.

Crossing the Colorado river and the Fort Mojave Indian Reservation we headed up a section of Route 66 to the mining town of Oatman and had a wander round meeting some of the inhabitants – two and four-footed.

Over a winding pass road we continued on through Kingman and stopped for a break at Hackberry – an old Route 66 petrol station and Diner.

As we rode on the vegetation became a bit thicker and small trees began to appear.  Gaining height the temperature also became a bit more bearable although still reaching 34 C at midday at Seligman where we had lunch.

After the town of Williams we turned off the main road and headed north towards the Grand Canyon.  We were now on an undulating plateau at around 5,000 feet with large conifers more and more frequent.

Reaching our hotel for the night at around 5.30 we had a break and re-assembled at 7 to head off to the rim of the Grand Canyon to see the sunset – which has to be said was everything you would want it to be.  The crowd even applauded when it finally set.

Again a helmet hair victim
